Subject: Liability Insurance for Astro Club

The San Diego Astronomy Association (SDAA) has a liability policy in place
for these types of events. We have an observing site, which hosts three
star parties a month (two open to the public and one for members only). In
addition, the site is available to members for use any time. We have a
yearly Messier Marathon at the site, along with other "special" events,
like comet passes, eclipses, and such, that both members and public are
invited to. We also host public star parties in the local parks,
campgrounds, and do approximately 125 school star parties a year.

We carry a $2 million liability policy, which has a $1,000 deductible.
We're paying about $2,100/year for this year, and it increases yearly (by
about $50/year). This basically covers any types of liability issues at
any "club-sanctioned" event, which includes any event that the public is
invited to, and anytime an member is on the site.

If you would like it, I can forward a copy of the provisions page to you.
Just let me know where to fax it.

Hope this helps.

Brian
