SAC Members and Guests! Come to AZ Horse Lovers Park at Reach 11 Recreation Area for a Public Star Party on Friday August 15, 2003 from 8:00 to 10 pm+. Arrive about 7:30 or earlier to set up. Semi-dark sky should be good to show the brighter Sagittarius, Scorpius, Cygnus and Hercules objects to the inquisitive public. Mercury is at greatest eastern elongation in the west and Mars should rise to 20 degrees by 9:30-10 just enough to whet their appetites. Only 0.025 of the general population has ever seen Mercury. Don't forget your stepstools, aperture masks, green lasers, and insect repellent. The park is on Tatum Blvd just south of Loop 101 right before the CAP canal. Or 1.5 mile north of Bell Rd on Tatum. Turn right (west) after getting off the 101 or left if coming from Bell. Look for published announcements and pictures in the Mesa Tribune, the AZ Republic in the science section on Tuesday, and the Night&Day section of the New Times on Wednesday.
