Before last night's meeting, a person whose name I don't know approached me with a request for the Board. He wanted to know if SAC could pursue purchasing amplified speakers and a wireless microphone, citing that his hearing loss prevents him from understanding what is said at the meetings. I think our meeting room may already be mostly set up for a PA system. The room has speakers with a jack that plugs into PC, so it would be a matter of purchasing a microphone. The cost of this request relative to SAC's savings would likely be small. Speaking as somebody with two hearing aids who has lost 70 dB in one ear, I am opposed to pursuing this request. My solution to the problem has been a seat in the front row. Between the officer reports and presentations, we typically have at least a half dozen people speaking at each meeting. Transferring a microphone to each person based on one individual's request is going to be cumbersome, and arguably unnecessary in such a small room. My more selfish reason for opposing the request: as the de facto A/V guy for the past several years, I don't want to deal with another thing in the room that may or may not work. But that's just my take on it. The request that's up for discussion, and presumably for vote, is whether SAC should pursue setting up a PA system for meetings. My apologies for not knowing the requester's name. Tom
