I have taken the liberty to schedule this event, due to the IYA "100 Hours of Astronomy" event, which will have world wide publicity. As you will note, I am going to register 3 events that EVAC will be participating in during this April 2-5 time frame. Currently, there are NO other Arizona events registered. So... I am going to put Arizona on the map! Randy, please add this event to our calendar . Gene, please reserve this date on your calendar if you can, and I think this will be an excellent place for the Dob to be used. All, Scott has advised that there will also be a public appreciation and award ceremony (I think he said for some fire-fighters) that evening, so we will have a built-in starter crowd. Randy can announce this at the Feb, Mar, and Apr Meetings, and we can post an article in the March and April Observer. As I state in the email below, I will write an article for the Riparian newsletter. Other club Presidents - Here is a chance for us to get together, and sponsor a "city-wide" participation in IYA. If you could schedule a "sidewalk star party" event somewhere during this time frame, we could approach the valley media (TV- Newspapers) with a joint press release, and maybe get some good exposure. What do you think? Second Note to Other club Presidents - The EVAC board@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx email address is not generally available to the public. It is a list server router, of which you must be a registered member to originate email. So, if you do a "reply to all", that one will bounce. However, I would still get it, and will be happy to forward on any comments you wish. This event will be advertised as part of our continuing celebration of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy (IYA) program. This specific event (program) is known as the "100 Hours of Astronomy". Events are being planned, worldwide, in conjunction with this program. For background reference, here is a link to their website: http://www.100hoursofastronomy.org/ EVAC will be registering 3 events (so far), being the open GRCO on Friday Night and Saturday Night (April 3rd and 4th); the sidewalk astronomy star party on Saturday, April 4th, and a separate school star party at Greenfield Elementary School, about 1 mile S of GRCO at Elliott and Greenfield on Friday, April 3rd. I think when I register these events on the 100 Hours web page, I will show GRCO and the "Sidewalk Star Party" as being hosted by EVAC "in cooperation with The Riparian Institute of Gilbert Arizona". Would such a comment be ok with you and the Riparian Institute? Please confirm if ok. Thanks. EVAC will prepare an article for the Riparian newsletter, and seek publication of these events through the Gilbert Republic, and other news outlets. David M.
