I used to employ a girl who was a Kalkadoon aboriginal. They are based in
Mount Isa, and are – or should I say were <g> - the only headhunting tribe
known, among aboriginals.
As an aside, this girl looked quite Polynesian especially when she wore her
long hair down, but as she always told enquirers, she was “an original
Australian”. Sadly, she died of cancer aged only 25.

Margaret,
If it helps and you can wait for a reply, I have a relation who has lived and
worked in Milingimbi ,Arnhem Land since about 1990 but she has recently retired
to Humpty Doo. Some of her family still live and work in Milingimbi.. I’m sure
she could at least explain the etiquette and naming patterns behind the names.
She is very much into family history and appreciates all that Ryerson does.
I suspect that Kalkadoon is the tribal group that the person was part of and
not part of their name. This tribe were originally from the Mt Isa area. I
won’t even hazard a guess at the other parts of the name.

John, how do I index this notice. Do I put the name in brackets under a
previous name.
Margaret.
