Personally, I would follow the usual rule: if it is from somebody
unknown, and unreadable into the bargain, it is probably dangerous. I
am an Administrator on two mailing lists. Sometimes people are looking
for a chat hub, but this email isn't. We aren't a chat site either.
This content is totally irrelevant to us.
I am surprised you even mentioned the email to the members. Nobody
else replied. It is a routine decision for the list's Administrator.
You can't rely on the site's spam filters. A guy on another list
received one of the spams telling him he had a fine to pay. He asked
how he could stop them coming. I replied that he needed to use common
sense and deal with them, not duck the responsibility. He wanted to
use XP because he liked it, and didn't care that any security loopholes
found since April 2014 are not being plugged. Is our committee like
him? Maybe my depression makes me argumentative, but this one is
obvious. Thankfully, the members have limited liability.
