One of the first topics we will address at our inaugural meeting is the fight
against voter suppression and disenfranchisement — which is why we are so
excited to have Dwight Bullard join us for the discussion.
A former state senator and current Political Director of New Florida Majority,
Dwight was a leader on the Florida Rights Restoration campaign, which succeeded
in passing a ballot initiative to restore voting rights to 1.5 million formerly
incarcerated people.
Now he’s fighting to stop voter suppression in all its forms.
As we saw last year, whether it’s voter ID laws, closing polling sites, purging
voter lists, or finding flimsy excuses to reject voter registrations,
Republicans will stop at nothing to try and keep primarily minority voters from
casting their ballots. Which is why any plan to retake the White House and
Senate in 2020 must include a strategy to fight back against voter suppression.
In addition to Dwight Bullard, newly-elected Alderman Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez
will also join the call to discuss her upset victory against Chicago’s Rahm
Emanuel machine.
And to all you Game of Thrones fans, fear not — our meeting will end before 9pm
ET.
So please join us for our first-ever WFP Assembly meeting this Sunday at 8pm
ET/5pm PT.
Until then,
Team WFP
