| Dear Democrat,
Late Friday afternoon the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) of
the Department of Homeland Security or a reunification center to be established
in Albuquerque and directed the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services
(LIRS) to provide emergency services to 300 immigrant families in Albuquerque.
LIRS, in turn, asked Albuquerque Lutheran Family Services (LFS-ABQ) to handle
this request. LFS-ABQ will be working with the City of Albuquerque to help
reunite 50 children per day, for six days starting yesterday, with their
relocated parents. The reunification center will need donations of various
items and money to handle this important task. Specifically:
- Food and water (Easy to pack cookies or crackers, fruit, bottled water,
paper plates and napkins and plastic utensils)
- Clothing (for children ages 6 and up and men's clothing, shoe laces,
flip-flops, t-shirts, shorts, underwear and socks)
- Backpacks for both children and adults
- Toys and stuffed animals
- Hygiene products (soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, travel size
shampoo)
Donations of these physical items can be taken to Albuquerque Fire Station #2
at 2401 Alumni Dr. SE
You can also make a monetary donation at the Lutheran Family Services website.
Please be sure to put "Albuquerque" in the comment field when making an online
donation to make sure it goes to this relief effort. Alternately, you can send
a check to:
