- HB 33, Expand Authority of Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty, sponsored by Rep.
Garcia, is scheduled to be heard in the House Local Government, Land Grants, &
Cultural Affairs Committee on 22 January. This bill proposes to create a
division within the office of the attorney general to provide assistance to the
land grant council and land grants-mercedes.

your support for this legislation.

Your message
- Remember, the principal purpose of the message is to show your support for
the legislation.
- However, a brief justification for your position is helpful though not
essential, to let the legislator know that you are familiar with the
legislation. Here is the justification for this bill (but please use your own
words)
- Spanish and Mexican Land Grant-Mercedes communities have suffered
social and economic hardships as a result of the failure of the United States
to justly adjudicate communal land claims required under the Treaty of
Guadalupe Hidalgo.
