- HB 207, Surprise Billing Protection Act, sponsored by Rep. Nathan Small,
is scheduled to be heard on 4 February in the House Health & Human Services
Committee. This bill would provide protection of a covered person from
unexpected bills from providers that do not participate in the covered person's
health benefits plan. More than half of American adults have been surprised by
a medical bill that they assumed would have been covered by their health care
plans. There are horror stories of surprise billings of thousands of dollars.

your support for this bill.

committee members listed at the bottom of this message.

Your message
- Remember, the principal purpose of the message is to show your support for
this bill.
- However, a brief justification for your position is helpful though not
essential, to let the legislator know that you are familiar with the bill. In
addition to the information in the description of the bill, above, here are
possible reasons (but please use your own words)
- A patient receiving medical care should be fully informed about the
costs of the care, including any costs that are not covered by the patient's
health care plan.
- It is reasonable that patients must be reimbursed for surprised
billings.

the legislation is scheduled in "his or her" committee.
- If you are addressing the sponsor (see above) of legislation that you
support, you may wish to acknowledge that by expressing your thanks.
