Dear all,
In collaboration with CNIB Foundation, Diane Brauner, Educational Assistive
Technology Consultant, TVI and COMS, has written ‘The ABC’s of iOS: A VoiceOver
Manual for Toddlers and Beyond!’
Designed for educators and family members, this user-friendly manual provides
step-by-step instruction on how to introduce a young child with visual
impairments or blindness to intentionally and purposefully interact with an
iPad and/or iPhone using VoiceOver.
The manual incorporates accessible apps with progressive educational content to
help prepare children to be successful in mainstream classrooms.
This manual is currently available FREE for everyone, also outside Canada and
the United States!
With COVID-19 school closures, technology has become an integral part of remote
instruction. Access to 1:1 technology and technology skills have become even
more critical for young students.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Diane Brauner for quite some time, also in
her capacity as Manager of the important Paths to Technology website.
As Sonokids we are proud that a number of our Ballyland apps are included in
this valuable manual.
I have the The ABC’s of iOS myself and I honestly believe that everyone will
benefit from reading and using this manual – if you are new to this topic, but
also if you are already familiar with VoiceOver.
There are detailed descriptions of gestures, clear instructions and practical
tips on how to teach the mechanics and concepts of VoiceOver, based on Diane’s
extensive experience with workshops for students and Specialist Teachers
(Vision Impairment).
To request your free copy (and thank them for this great initiative), please
