Are your prints as good looking as the scans I see here? To what size do
you print?

I'm really debating whether I need to upgrade my 4990 to a Nikon 8000 or
9000. I went to a local rental darkroom this afternoon (Rayko) and used
their 8000 for 2.5 hours scanning about 15 of my best negs from my
Rolleiflexes and Fuji GA645 and GW690III. Just now starting to compare. Of
course the 8000 at 4000 dpi beats the 4990 scans hands down in terms of
pixel-peeping at the sharpness but the jury is still out in regards to
whether it's a difference I'll see on my typical print size of under Super
A3. After some good post-scanning work flow with sharpening and such I get
some great prints from my 4990 scans. I'm just trying to see if I'm leaving
anything significant on the table in terms of huge difference in tonality
and so forth. I'd prefer not to spend $1300-1900 on a new scanner but will
do it if it means a big enough jump in quality that I'd see in my prints at
the sizes I'm talking about.
