Thanks John,
lest anyone suspect I’m a complete moron, I’m fully aware that Rodinal will
develop pretty much any film just fine.
What I was more interested in was whether using Rodinal 1+25 in a Jobo would
“ruin” the faster films (Tri-X, TMY) by producing colossal amounts of grain. I
don’t mind grain, but I don’t want lumpy oatmeal either.
Obviously everything is a tradeoff, I’m on a deadline and am just wondering
whether I should take the extra time and effort to give the Kodak stuff
“special treatment” (it will still be in a Jobo, just with a different
developer, D-76), or if they’ll be fine, just a bit rougher than usual.
Thanks,
Thor
(P.s. The Jobo manual and everything I’ve seen online and elsewhere recommends
using Rodinal @ 1+25 in the Jobo. I’ve heard 1+50 can be advantageous when
developing without the added agitation the Jobo causes, and even 1+100 for
stand developing. If I get around to finding some regular lids for my tanks, I
might actually try it sometime.)

Thor,
I develop all my films in Rodinal, basically because I do not process
frequently and opened Rodinal keeps from one millennium to the next - I keep
mine in the fridge. It is grainy but I have used it for all my films for the
past 15 or so years (Ilford, Kodak, Rollei, Efke, Adox, Agfa) . I have not
compared different film types with different developers to know which gives
the best results but that is subjective anyway.
I tend to use 1+50 for times as per the Digitaltruth website.

Subject: [rollei_list] Rodinal in a Job ok for Kodak emulsions?
I’m trying to catch up on my developing, and don’t have much time.
Been running Rodinal 1+25 for 5 minutes in a Jobo. With APX100 it’s perfect.
I have some rolls of 125PX, 400TX and 400TMY-2, and wonder if they’ll do ok
with Rodinal in the Jobo, or if I should take the time to hunt down some D-76
somewhere and mix up a batch for the Kodak films.
I’d do stand developing in diluted Rodinal instead (1+50), but don’t have the
sealed lids for the drums, only the geared cog lids.
Thanks,
Thor
