You can also improve the quality of 120 scans by doing “wet” scanning with
scanning oil.

Hi Everyone,Dr. Kevin Pernicano
I was encouraged to give my Epson 4870 another try yesterday, after I
learned about VueScan from this group. I downloaded the trial version,
loaded the 120 holder with two strips of some 18-year old Rolleiflex negs
and started up the scanner. I was able to make a fairly decent scan.
Since the VueScan trial version only allows you to scan with their water
mark, I tried it with my old Epson Scan software and, lo and behold, it
also worked.

I see, some of you already discovered the picture of the Altena Castle on
Flickr. I had to do a fair amount of spotting, even though I could not see
too many dust specks on the negative with my magnifying glass.
Then I also tried to scan a 6x6 color slide in the 4 x 5 holder, but there
I got a failure (stripes and a big white gap) and the red blinking light
came on.
This stopped me from shelling out the €69 for the VueScan full version.
Looks like the color scanning function is broken, but I will try some other
varations today with color negatives strips, etc.
Good news though, that I can at least keep scanning my B&W collection
before I succumb to buying an Epson V850...
Have a nice Sunday everyone. Foggy and wet here in the Rhineland. One
needs to go to Spain for snow… ;-))
