I had read somewhere that one of the astronauts (cannot remember which
one off hand), when NASA realized that they did not have a suitable
camera for the pending mission, popped out to the local store and bought
a Hasselblad 500...

NASA did use a Rolleiflex 6006 or 6008 at one time. There is a NASA
Rolleiflex 6000 camera which appears on Ebay every so often at a very
high 'Buy it now' price

to the moon.
