One thing not mentioned here that undoubtedly influenced editors to prefer larger negs back in the day- retouching. We tend to overlook how important retouching was for newspapers and magazines from the 1920s to the 1960s. It was standard operating procedure. Obviously, retouching a 4x5 neg is a lot easier than a 35mm one. I knew a few guys who were still doing retouching in the 1980s- although I'm not sure they knew what the hell they were doing. Today, with digital, it's become a lost art. --- Rollei List - Post to rollei_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - Subscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'subscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Unsubscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Online, searchable archives are available at //www.freelists.org/archives/rollei_list
