I hope others will join in a discussion and let us hear their thoughts on this.

I would not want to be involved in facebook for the activities of this list. I have, from time to time, participated to a limited extent at the request of my kids. (I activate and deactive the account upon demand, facebook never forgets anything). I have somehow gotten one of my email addresses (and name) onto some site that kindly sends me commercials for a Canadian Drugstore. "B^y M*eds from us t- yu", and endless variations of subjects. I have found that I can filter out about 90% of them because they always use unusual characters in their subjects, and often include a couple of paragraphs of text from a classic book to make the messages look larger than the single URL which is usually the only thing in the body of the message.

Fortunately Cox, the hated Cox, provides me almost limitless "Store and Share" space that allows me to post the 300 or so pictures that get taken with my camera (mostly by the kids, grand kids, etc.) during my annual visit. Saves a lot of time sorting and sending and I give them permission to download anything they want.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure about it.
