Just a thought for Ken's specific dilemma... Not sure how many general
pistons you have but if you have enough, try reserving one with no registration
to use as a general cancel.

Ken - to my knowledge there is no way to save the transposer into a general
piston. Your situation is a bit unusual. Typically we transpose to match a
singer's range or a congregation's limitation for a particular song or hymn.
The resetting of the transposer to normal upon pressing the GEN CANC piston
has saved me a number of times. Other organs hold the transposed setting and
that can be very embarrassing when the brass joins you for what you thought
was normal pitch after a transposed hymn. Thank goodness it resets when you
press GEN CANC.

Your situation is opposite. Since you play by ear, you want the organ to
sound the music in a different key from the one in which you are playing.
That as you said can vary with each selection.

As best as I can see it, press GEN CANC after each selection and then simply
turn the transposer each time to match the next song. It will of course allow
you to change pistons normally and stay in the same key throughout. In the
long run that might be safer anyway, since you will not have to avoid a
piston if it had a transposer function also! Simply note in your music the
number of 1/2 steps up or down that you need. A few clicks of the knob and
you are in business! You will find this to be a very reliable solution, and
habit will lead you to set it correctly.

Good luck!
