This compatibility of media over time on organ player recording is not a new
problem at all. Consider the large number of Austin and Aeolian player rolls
that no longer have instruments that support them. About 45 years I "cut" a
roll of Alain's Litanies on an Austin roll making machine hooked up to an Estey
in a Mr Petty's basement, controlled by an upstairs console. It also had a
compatible player. My friend, the late Jack Foster, did Farnham's "Sons and
daughters". About 5 years later Mr Petty moved to Arizona and took the organ,
roll puncher, roll player, rolls with him. Who knows if they even exist.
Future generations will look at this discussion with curiosity, and then move
on.
By the way, this list server is annoyingly user unfriendly on an iPad. It works
but sometimes a lot gets quoted that does not show on the screen when writing,
even if you scroll. Usually it requires a bounce to know that excessive
quoting has occurred. This came about two software updates ago.
