I have always loved using a diapason or principal at 16' or 8' for a = beautiful solo registration. I find it disappointing that so few electronic= instruments have a 16' Principal for that very reason. And in a celeste--i= t is truly heavenly (but stay mostly above middle C, we don't want mud). = The older analog Rodgers Viola Pomposa and Celeste was so nice, as they = really were principals. I find diapason celestes so much warmer in sound = than string celestes.=20 And while on the subject of solo stops, a clarinet at 16' (or basset horn) = is very nice, too, and rare on classical instruments. With gentle = tremulant, please, for slower lyrical melodies. For developing useful solo registrations, it really pays for classical = organists to borrow some of the techniques that theatre organists use. = Walt Strony's Secrets of Theatre Organ Registration is the only place I = know that these have been committed to paper.
