 Jim,
Since you likely did not do a "save" with the PR-300, we can assume the disk
was not altered, and since the thing worked during practice right before
service, then it has to be something simple...something overlooked. My guess
is that you had the appropriate MIDI coupler ON for the practice session, and
that it was OFF for the service... just a hunch. The great shoe sends
expression data on channel 12, so if you are playing back a sequence from
channel 1 for example, the PR-300 sound card is going to have to get expression
controller data on channel 1...ergo via the GT A MIDI coupler.
There is a procedure to reset the PR-300 on the
website...www.frogmusic.com/rodgers.html

Several weeks ago I made a general midi file using my synthesizer and
Cakewalk on my PC. The file is the piano part to a piano/organ duet.
(Also added tubular chimes in one section.)

When I first started practicing the duet using the PR 300-S and the
Rodgers TR 837 organ at church, the expression shoe controlled the
volume from the midi as well as the organ volume level. (I was using
the All Swells to Swell control on the organ, so I don't really know
which shoe was controlling the midi volume. I think that it was the
great shoe, because the sounds from the PR 300-S are on one of the
great channels.)

To balance the sounds that I was using from the organ stops, I turned
the volume all the way up on the PR 300-S.

The next time I went to the church to practice the duet; for some
reason, the expression shoe no longer controlled the MIDI volume, and
the piano was much too loud. I turned the volume down to the center
of the scale and controlled the organ volume/balance with the
expression shoe. That worked fine. For the CODA, when I wanted the
piano part loud, I just reached over and raised the volume on the PR
300-S.

Every time after that that I practiced the duet (including this
morning before the service) it worked the same way; that is, the
expression shoe did NOT control the volume on the PR 300-S.

During the service this morning, when I was playing the duet, the
volume of the PR 300-S was once again affected by the expression shoe.
I discovered this while playing the duet! I had to reach over and
raise the volume on the PR 300-S on the fly, as the balance was not
right.

Now, my question....why would the expression shoe affect the volume on
the PR300-S some of the time, and not at other times. That
inconsistency can be disconcerting at times.

Before the service, I have about 1/2 hour of hymns with chimes, etc.
pre-recorded on a floppy that plays until I am ready to start the
prelude. It sets a nice tone for people as they enter the church if
they arrive before the prelude starts.

When I was ready to start the prelude, I pressed the Stop button,
removed the disk and replaced it with the disk having my duet on it,
so that it would be ready when needed. Would that have had anything
to do with it? Is there some way to reset the PR 300-S, or is that
ever necessary?

Any suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
