Charlie, what you're suggesting is what our Synod Cantor, Donna Elkin,
suggested for a church in the synod that was installing a new organ. We had
a workshop at the church in September and she made it a point to make sure
all who attended were aware of this. She said it drove the organ builder
crazy, but she got her way for once. She's also my AGO Chapter Dean so
there's always room for innovation. Also, I'm sure you're all aware of the
Pastorale, Meditation and Toccata on Ein Feste Burg by Barbara Rogers, I'm
planning to use the meditation the next time I want a setting that will lead
the congregation into a deeper consideration of the text. So many of the
settings are bold and brassy (which I like) while this is more
introspective.

Subject: [rodgersorgan] Drawknob Sequence

In augmenting and refurbishing my 990, I need to determine the sequence =
for placement of the drawknobs.

AGO indicates (bottom to top): flues, then reeds; and within those groups =
low to high pitch, then loudest to softest.

It seems to me that arrangement in groups of stops that are commonly used =
together has much value, even if not strictly AGO. For example, the =
principal ensemble would be better served by a single vertical column, =
rather than staggering in 2 columns. My Swell has a geigen diapason, voix =
celeste, and salicional which would make a good horizontal row for ease in =
drawing the celeste with either the diapason or the salicional, even if it =
means the louder Rohrfl=F6te is above the other 3. Likewise, the 16-8-4 =
chorus reeds make most sense in a column, even if it puts the 16 ft. reed =
one stop below the Plen Jeu III and the Trompette above the Oboe.

How do you all feel about organizing the drawknobs? Do these kinds of =
groupings work well for you?

Charlie
