"Serendipitous Discovery" -

Always an East Coast gal, I love following my local favorite artists who
perform the music of JD, Chris Westfall from New Jersey and Charlie Zahm
from Pennsylvania.
Lately I have gone out to see National touring tributes by the Boulder
Canyon Band and Curry Band. I particularly love the folksy harmonies
between Jim and Anne Curry and the entire band.
An avid collector, I frequently find myself searching Amazon for the latest
JD stuff. There are an infinite number of the same old compilations
usually. This January, I came upon MP3s by a tribute artist I've never heard
of. Not being an MP3 fan, I decided to Google him for a "hard copy" CD.
Type in "Layne Yost" . here we go! He's a West Coast independent artist so
no wonder this Jersey Girl (Sha La La) never heard of him.
Look, he plays all kinds of JD tributes, just like my local favorites Chris
and Charlie. There is one original song on each CD, too. He has not one
but TWO JD CDs! Moreover, the song selection is unique. Of course, it has
the usual greatest hits like Back Home Again, Sunshine, Annie's Song, and
Country Roads.
However, there is also some pretty cool unusual stuff. Circus (which even
Michael Johnson hasn't recorded and he helped JD write it), Zachary &
Jennifer, It's About Time, Rhymes & Reasons, Isabel, and The New Land. New
Land is bootlegged somewhere on YouTube but never released officially by JD.
It is from an early 70s TV series set in a National Park.
Mr. Yost plays in the Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa area. He has a kind,
gentle voice and the guitar work reminds me of the Mike Taylor days. But no
one will ever top JD in my mind. check him out if you can, and share info
about any other local man who plays our favorite music LIVE!
One is "Music of John Denver" and the latest is "The Memories We Share Music
of John Denver". The latest is on Amazon the other on CD Baby. You can

Brad Paisley sings 'Country Roads,' tells young people in W.Va. to stay home
amid outbreak

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH)
Country music star and West Virginia native Brad Paisley
wants young people in the Mountain State to stay home amid the novel
coronavirus outbreak.
On Thursday night, Paisley, who is from Glen Dale, W.Va.,
held a virtual concert on his Instagram account. The singer performed some
songs from his home requested by his followers and even phoned in other
country stars to sing duets with him through video on his computer.
One song that received requests was John Denver's "Take Me
Home, Country Roads."
"This song actually has good advice right now," Paisley said after agreeing
to sing the song.
Paisley then talked about how West Virginia was the last
state to get a confirmed case of the coronavirus, but said that doesn't mean
the virus was not already in the state.
"The bad thing about West Virginia and why I want all West Virginians to be
diligent right now is our population is a disproportionately large portion
of people that are over 70 and really, really high risk," he said. "So, we
really want to make sure that the young people in the state do their best to
distance and at the same time we want people to stay home in that state."
Some other stars who have shared virtual concerts during the outbreak are
John Legend, Chris Martin of Coldplay and Keith Urban.

Letter from the Editor:
In getting this newsletter together, I wondered what advice John Denver
would have had for us if he were alive. I tried to think of his lyrics and
which ones had the most hope in them. I immediately thought of "The Eagle
and the Hawk." Then when I did a google search on
"Hope in John Denver lyrics", it came up with the same thing. So, in this
trying time of isolation, we need to remember that "hope for the future" is
what will get us through and into a time of health, love, and prosperity.
