Hi folks.
It's International Women's day today; but I'm sure you knew that.
My wife says I sometimes feature too many female vocalists in my show.
Well today, I have an excuse.
As a further example of indomitable female courage, I'm playing a sonata
by Domenico Scarlatti, recorded by Wanda Landowska in her Paris studio
in 1940. She continued to the end of the piece, in spite of the clearly
audible sound of bombs and artillery, which marked the beginning of the
German attack and capture of Paris. She appeared to be unperturbed,
finished the recording, and, leaving her instruments and manuscripts
behind, left the city for good.
Much more less dramatic stuff as well of course, Chaka Kahn, Jo Dee
Messina, Jane Parker-Smith, an internationally renowned organist, ETC.
