Dear Allies,

In December of 2016, signed into law was the Every Students Succeeds Act
(ESSA) which requires that states develop a new accountability system for
their schools. This new law mandates that schools be rated mostly on
academic factors, including test scores and graduation rates. *It ALSO
allows the inclusion of a non-academic factor that would assess school
quality in a more holistic way.*

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is currently

Matters are gravely concerned that most of the options included are
academic, test-based factors. Not only are these factors redundant (they
are already included in the other indicators), they do little to address
the conditions that must be in place for true and meaningful education to
occur.

Dear Friend of the Rochester City School District:



Please help us invite the public to a March 18th meeting that is open to
the public and will help us change education regulations to better serve:

·       Students with disabilities

·       English language learners

·       *Every* child in the Rochester City School District



On December 10, 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into
law by President Obama. This bipartisan measure reauthorized the
50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s
education law.



The public is being asked to provide feedback on questions the New York
State Education Department (NYSED) needs to answer in order to develop
recommendations for the Board of Regents regarding the contents of New
York’s draft ESSA plan. We invite you, people from your organization and
anyone interested in city schools to attend the ESSA Public Input Meeting:
