Moreover, these cultures exhibit similarities and connections via wide-ranging trade networks with other Neolithic cultures in the Near East and South Asia. The primordial deity for our Neolithic ancestors was female, centered around a self-generating Goddess/Creatrix of life, death, and rebirth. According to Gimbutas, this was a culture that was matrifocal and probably matrilinear, agricultural and sedentary, egalitarian and peaceful. It contrasted sharpl= y with the ensuing proto-Indo-European culture, which was patriarchal, stratified, pastoral, mobile, and war-oriented--and which was superimposed on Europe between 4500 and 2500 B.C. in three waves of infiltration from th= e Russian steppe.=20 Constance Piesinger, Ph.D., has a doctorate in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin=ADMadison, with a specialty in Near Eastern Archaeology. Dr. Piesinger=B9s studies of prehistoric Neolithic archaeology have given her insights into a different cultural paradigm that preceded Western civilization=8Bone that revered the Earth as sacred and that honored the divine feminine and the equal partnership of men and women. She has presented this slide lecture in 2003 at an international conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and in 2007 at a Goddess Festival in Budapest, Hungary, and at the new Centre for Neoculture in Cakovec, Croatia. Recent presentations have included Kauai and the Big Island of Hawaii. She has co-facilitated women=B9s spirituality and intergender relationship groups and workshops in the U.S. and internationally. In 2005, she co-founded the ongoing women's circle, "Goddesses Unite!" in the Napa-Sonoma, CA area. Date: Thursday, Mar. 3, 2011 Time: 7:30 P.M. Location: Many Rivers Books & Tea, 130 S.
