Dear JF,
Thanks for checking!
I disabled it, and when searching I noticed also that it is not searching
content in EPUB files, only if the search term is in the file name it would
show the file. When clicking on preview or open I get this message:

So now I realize my problem is that recoll is not indexing these files'
content for some reason.
Thanks,

Hi,
Thanks for the Mac OS X detail... I just gave it a try, and indeed, epub
preview does not work by default there (reason unknown, I just found out
about it).
This has nothing to do with helper applications, epub support is indeed
bundled
with recoll 1.31.6 .
There seems to be a workaround: go to Preferences -> GUI Configuration and
uncheck
"Prefer Html to plain text for preview"
Please tell us if this works for you.
Cheers,
jf

Hi,
What recoll version are you using, and on what system ?
The current recoll version bundles an updated epub package, and you
thisnot have to install anything for epub files to be indexed.
The details about the external handlers are hopefully up to date on
(application/vnd.ms-powerpoint)page:
https://www.lesbonscomptes.com/recoll/pages/features.html#doctypes

how to use Recoll to index a fairly large volume of data (on
the order of multiple terabytes)
I have much smaller data volumes, and Recoll works really well
for me too, way better than most other indexers.
and interface them with Searx (https://github.com/searx/searx)
for ease of use (as well as API access). [...]
Interesting, and I use myself multiple indices, listed in
"$RECOLL_ACTIVE_EXTRA_DBS", but I sort of struggle to see the
point of using SearX for "ease of use", when the Qt Recoll
interface is much more powerful and illustrative. Well, I guess
for simple keyword queries being able to search both local and
remote sources with the same web query is interesting, but
usually I prefer to keep them totally separate. A matter of
taste.

Hi,
Would this be correct to reindex my recoll databases with cron while
attempting also those files that failed the previous time (-k tag)?
recollindex -k -c ~/.recoll-literature
recollindex -k -c ~/.recoll-notes
recollindex -k -c ~/.recoll-research
Thanks!

Hi,
I don't think that it really makes sense to set -k in a cron job, as
retrying will only help if you changed something (e.g. installed a missing
helper).
