This message contains new
information about the
announcements and mailing lists
associated with the NLS Audio Book
and Magazine Download Service
Pilot Test.

The DTB-Test mailing list will be
retained as an announce-only list
for the remainder of the pilot
test phase of the NLS download
service. It will be used for each
week's new book and magazine
announcements and for important
service announcements (such as
planned maintenance outages) only.
It will not be used for any other
purpose.

Two new mailing lists,
BARD-Support and BARD-Discuss, are
being established. The former is
for support questions and answers
only (including user-to-user
support) while the latter is for
the discussion of all things
related to the NLS download
service. The names of the lists
reflect their purposes and the
future name of the download
service, the NLS BARD. BARD
stands for Braille and Audio
Recordings by Download. (Braille
materials will be added at a
future date.)

The BARD-Support list will be very
closely monitored. Subscribers
using the list for messages deemed
inappropriate will have their
posting privileges suspended for
thirty days, after which time they
may resubscribe to the list. The
BARD-Discuss list will also be
monitored, but NLS will permit a
far greater range of allowable
topics and discussion styles.

Important service announcements
will be sent to these two lists as
well.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

You will NOT be automatically
subscribed to either new list. If
you do not wish to subscribe to
either list, simply do nothing.

If you wish to subscribe to either
or both of the new lists, please
follow these instructions:

UNTIL September 1, you will be
able to subscribe yourself to
either of these lists by sending
an e-mail message to the list
server. The message should come
from the e-mail address you wish
to subscribe. The subject is
unimportant, but the body of the
message should contain a single
line:

SUBSCRIBE BARD-SUPPORT firstname
lastname

Or, for BARD-DISCUSS,

SUBSCRIBE BARD-DISCUSS firstname
lastname

Of course, please replace
firstname lastname with your name.
Send the message to
LISTSERV@xxxxxxx .

BEGINNING September 1, you will
only be able to subscribe by
sending a subscription request to
NLSDownload@xxxxxxx . Be sure to
include your first and last name.

You may unsubscribe from any list
at any time by sending a message
to LISTSERV@xxxxxxx containing the
single line

SIGNOFF listname

where listname is the name of the
list you wish to drop.

Please remember that
NLSDownload@xxxxxxx is still the
best place to send support
requests that are specific to you
(e.g. you need your password
reset) or suggestions that are not
of general interest.

Also, remember that there is a
list of Frequently Asked Questions
and answers at

http://www.nlstalkingbooks.org/dtb/FAQ.html .
