Oh Ruthie, how I wish I could help you. I live out in the country and Bean would have a wonderful home with us, but we already have four dogs and a cat. One of the dogs is definitely an escape artist and tries to get out of the yard by digging holes under our chain link fence, so that might also be a problem for the little guy. My apology to the list for not writing to ruthie off list, but I don't have her address on this PC. My heart really went out to you guys when I read your e-mail. Although I'm probably about 3 or 4 hours from you, I'll still ask around down here. You never know. I need to ask you a couple of questions about the critters, so please write to me off list. Hi Everyone. Two things right off the bat. I hate to cross-post, and I hate to post off-topic.but I'm doing both, kind of out of desperation, and I apologize greatly. Anyway, here goes the reason for it. Steve and I are moving later this month from our house to an apartment. Right now we have too many animals. We can't take with us our little chih-weiner dog (he's a mix between a Chihuahua and a dauschund.and two of our cats. We've reached out to all kinds of people we know and aren't finding anyone who can take them, much less that would be good homes for them. I was wondering if any of you, or anyone any of you knew might be able to help us out and give these guys a forever home. If you can't do anything, go ahead and delete, but if you think you might know someone, or if you might be able to do something, keep reading, because I'll tell you a good bit about each of them and the ideal home situation for them.although I know in reality ideal isn't always what happens.a loving home is better than one that is ideal in some other way. All 3 are up to date on their shots. First is Bean, his full name is Beaner-Weiner, representing both the German and the Mexican sides. He's half Chihuahua and half dauschund, about 9 years old, healthy as a horse, and quite the snuggler. It takes him about 60 seconds to get to know someone, and then he's friends forever. He does have separation anxiety, so when someone he's attached to leaves, he does tend to cry for awhile before falling asleep, and the greeting you get when you get home is quite jubilant. He is quite the escape artist, he can get out of many fences, if there's a hole in the fence, be sure, he'll find it. He does need to run though. He has a lot of energy, though when he's inside, you couldn't tell. He's a 12-pound bundle of love and when there's no people coming and going outside, he's quiet too. Unfortunately, if there's a lot of things going on outside, he tends to bark a good bit. The ideal situation for Bean would be out in the country somewhere where there's not neighbors coming and going constantly, somewhere he can run without worrying about traffic or leash laws. He has always stayed close to home when he's gotten out on us.and when he was at Steve's aunt's farm recently, he stayed right nearby, I haven't seen him as happy as he was, but she's not able to take him. Also, having someone at home most of the time, whether out in the country or not is a big plus. When he has someone he can cuddle with, especially if someone sits in a recliner and is willing to sit there most of the day with him, it cuts down greatly on his barking. Next is Star. She's a 4-½ year old black cat with a little gray on her tummy. She's very sweet unless she's around other cats. She may not like cats, but she does absolutely love dogs. It takes here a little while to warm up to them, to make sure they're not going to eat her or something, but then she cuddles with them at night, rubs against them, all that lovey stuff that cats usually do to humans. She does have all her nails and is Spayed. She especially likes to come to bed at night and snuggle. She's gone through phases in her life where she's been more of an outdoor cat, more of an indoor cat, half and half.but right now she's mostly an indoor cat but goes out for a couple hours here and there and maybe once every few weeks she'll spend the night outside. She isn't that vocal a cat, but every now and then she'll just start meowing for absolutely no reason, and when you go check on her, she's just sitting there like she never made a sound. I think she does it for attention but I've never been sure. She is a little temperamental, she doesn't like her tummy rubbed, and when she decides she's had enough love, she'll turn away from you quickly and give a warning hiss. And if you don't heed her warning, she might just swat at you. Because of her temperamentalism, I would recommend she not go to a home with any children younger than the pre-teen years. Also, she really needs to go to a home where there are no other cats. It would take a lot of stress away from her as she just doesn't do well around other cats. It would be great, but not at all necessary for her to go somewhere with dogs, as she adores dogs. Last and decidedly not least, is Azzey, full name Azrael (named after the dude on the Smurfs). She is a Maine Coon/Long-hair mix, and she is what they call Buff colored, kind of flesh toned. Her hair is kind of dull, less silky, meaning she needs brushed every now and then or she develops matted fur that needs cut off (lots of fun, I've had to do it <g>). Anyway, I got her earlier this year from an animal rescue group, who will go unnamed, who had her displayed at a local PetSmart behind glass. She was there for several weeks, only getting human contact when the attendants would come to feed the cats and change their litter and on the weekend when the rescue people came to show the cats. The other cats seemed to be tolerating it somewhat OK, but Azzey, whose name was something else back then, just seemed really stressed out. So, not knowing back then that we'd be moving later in the year, I adopted her. She is slow to bond with humans, she has started to bond with one of the cats we're taking with us, he's been teaching her some stuff.like how he rolls around on the ground and gets all dirty.yeah, we love that trick, lol. But he also seems to be teaching her how to socialize with humans, so we're hoping that sticks with her when someone adopts her from us. Azzey was a stray when she was younger and just can't stand to stay indoors. She will have a fit if you try to keep her inside. She does well with dogs. She does have all her nails and is spayed. The ideal situation for Azzey to go into would be with someone who is patient. Someone who is not disturbed by getting the cold shoulder from a cat for a long time until the cat finally attaches, because it will take awhile for her to warm up to someone. I really want her next home to be her forever home. So if you have any doubt, any thought that you might have to give her away, please don't take her. She deserves better than what I've done.but at the same time, I can't stand to think she would still be behind that glass at PetSmart.
