We had a big day today…….lots of people and great raffle sales (about
$75)……..however, it seemed chaotic and unlike our event in May.
If you recall, back in May, I was very regimented and had team meeting before
each session…..this time, I placed a run time sheet, and it was a disaster.
I have spent the last 3 hours going through the day and at least preliminarily
have come up with these issues and their solutions.
1. Let’s face it…..running on the small layouts is not everyones cup of
tea…..but we ALL have to…..this is a communal club……not a group of workers who
support the runners…...
The raffle layout MUST BE MANNED.
If you don’t have trains that work on these smaller layouts, then there are a
ton of donated trains you could use.
Be there at 0800 for the morning shift and 12 noon afternoon shift,
respectively. We are going back to team meetings and running will be assigned.
Everyone will get a chance to run where they want to in reason.
2. The yard made things more complex than they had to be.
The yard became a “hang out” and people naturally hung around them.
Last time trains were smaller……because we didn’t have a yard……now they are
longer…….and the yard got clogged up.
If we want to keep longer trains then we have to be vigilant of what is
happening.
Stage trains only “pre” your scheduled run time. If we are going to use the
yard to set cup and take down trains, 2 lines need to be kept for outgoing and
two line kept for incoming……the train coming off and the train coming on both
use the same yard…..
3. Dropping In…………..people dropped just in to run trains……….I accommodated
them and I have already dealt with the issue. Nothing more needs to be said
about the issue and I understand it can be unavoidable. I don’t want to
discourage it becauseI understand that plans change…….but I certainly don’t
want it to become routine. When things are lean, I ask people to come in
extra……and in reality I would not have needed to.
4. Yard mechanics……Rick has a great video……I asked him to resend it to everyone.

Remember, the more we sweat in practice, the less we will bleed in battle……
