I’m happy with just a RC3R car, whatever type it types are chosen.

I'd be very wary of making club cars with local businesses registered
trademarks without permission. In this litigious society you never know who
might decide to go after you. Now if the car stays on your home railroad,
nobody would care. Take it out to a public show like the Science Museum and
the wrong person sees it......

Don't even think about using Philip Morris on anything. With all the
folks ready to sue tobacco companies over anything, potential advertising
to children seeing the car, not to mention us PM retirees are getting
substantial retirement benefits from the company, a PM logo on a club car
is just a* BAD* idea.

Valid, but Chesapeake Western is a trademarked logo by Norfolk Southern.
I did not even consider getting RF&P Board approval before getting my
engine repainted. Put RC3R or RF&P on the car along with other artwork, yes
that brings them into the picture. Since I'm hiring an individual to paint
my car (and potentially other members doing the same), I fail to see how
RF&P Board involvement is valid.

Could NS take legal action about my engine custom paint job? Yes, but I
really can't imagine their lawyers pursuing the case. Do something
derogatory like putting "Another Load of Coffin Nails" on a Philip Morris
car, or "Killing Indians Since 1984" on a DuPont car, and then putting them
for sale on eBay. Yes, I can see lawyers coming after us with guns loaded.

There could also be an issue with copyright on the logos.  Even if they
are for only members, I believe copyright laws still apply.  If we are
going to go beyond our logo for club members only, I believe the RF&P board

All,

Bill has brought up a valid point about the option of making these
something other than just RC3R logo cars. Since Christine will be making
custom decals, it is conceivable that we have her produce up to five
different styles of cars. Members may want one, or more of these cars.

The one item that I do want to point out, it was never my intention to
offer these for purchase by the general public. These will be exclusively
for RC3R club members.This is not a fund raiser. Everything would be
at-cost only. There are several Richmond Specific Businesses that we could
feature. Artwork for each is available on the web. Since these are for
personal use we're OK right up to the point where we try to sell cars.
Offering any of these for sale would be a major no-no.

I think that is a good idea. I would prefer a scale car and one with a
prototypical design. For example, a boxcar featuring a locally significant
business or industry, not an RC3R specific car. Nassau Lionel Operating
Engineers does great cars that people other than their own members are
interested in. They are able to sell their cars through local hobby shops
and online. My other club, TMB, did 2 club-specific cars by Weaver, a
boxcar and a hopper, but they were only bought by members of the club. I
have bought a number of NLOE cars, not because they were NLOE but were
otherwise of interest to me. The NLOE cars attracted interest beyond their
club while the TMB cars did not. I purchased my Lionel NYA caboose, not
because it was NLOE but because I wanted an NYA caboose. You've seen my
Nathan's refeer.

This afternoon at the GBGH, an idea was floated that I wanted to share.
We have kicked around the idea of having a club car produced. The three
major sticking point has been:

   1. Minimum quantity
   2. Scale vs traditional
   3. Type of car

Ready to Run offered to do a run of their boxcars. These are (I think)
from Kusan molds and are basically 6464 sized cars. Given the history of
RTR, I'm was not willing to take a chance with them.

Atlas, offers undecorated cars. From what I can tell, these cars range in
price from $60-70 (not including shipping). Russell, if we can settle on a
style of car, would you check on your best pricing?

These include:

Atlas O Undecorated 53' GACC wood express reefer, 3 rail

I recently had an engine painted by Christine Brayden in Philadelphia.
She did an excellent job, including custom decals.  I have a quote in hand
for 4 different cars she will be painting for me in 2020. Pricing is
ranging from $45-55 per car.

So, here's the question.

How many of you would like a custom RC3R car?
What style of car?
Would you be willing to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $105-125
plus shipping for a car?
