As long as you are not depending on me, you guys make whatever call you want.
Even with the small layout, you need 3 people. If you only have 2, Murphy's
Law says as soon as someone needs to go to the bathroom, a train will jump the
track (likely with help), someone will have a question that needs to be
answered, and someone will want to buy a raffle ticket. While 2 may be enough
most of the time, we should plan for the unexpected, and we all know we like to
take an occasional break for ice cream or whatever.

2 people Monday through Thursday and then 3 people for the busier times:

Hi guys,
I know that there have been previous conversations about our participation
in the upcoming Chesterfield Fair. There are pros and con for our
participation. If we choose to participate, we first need to see if there is
sufficient support from the membership to man the show.
The dates are August 25-September 1, 2018. That equates to nine days with
two shifts on Saturdays (8/26 & 9/1). We would use the smaller layout and
that would work with 3 people per shift (two to run and one to sell tickets).
The Fair would pay us $500 and we might expect to sell $400 in raffle tickets
(based on history with the event).
If you buy that math, then we need a commitment for 33 slots. If we have
ELEVEN members who can, and are willing to participate three times, we can
cover the work requirements. If there are people who cannot make that number,
but are willing to do less, thank you, BUT, for decision purposes let us keep
it at a minimum of eleven members to make it work. (remember that there is
also set up and take down and this takes a village {take down on Sunday night
cannot start until closing, 10:00 pm??}.
The positives are the income we generate (fyi, 2017raffle sales were down
year over year and our lack of Fair participation was most likely a factor),
club participation in an off time of the year, community outreach, etc.
The negatives include it can be dirty and hard on the machinery, Fair
management in the past has not been overly gracious with allocation of space
and parking, there is usually a fairly long hike to transport your trains to
and from the parking lots.
Additionally, because we would almost certainly use the smaller layout we
will need to add some modules to have ready for the show. I believe the
membership has agreed to this in principle, but timing would need to be
considered to complete in time for the Fair. Best guess is an additional
three six footers (app $1,000 and three or four work days). (Note that we do
have some other projects going on with the big layout) Bob, Tom, and I have
discussed this and have concluded that it can be added ).
To conclude, given the above comments will you respond with a yes-3 IF you
think it makes sense and you can do it. For those who can participate with
something less, how about a yes-2 or yes-1. (Bob, Tom, and I are YES-3)
