There were two unaffiliated Bandit Meets in York this week that predated the
official meet. (There is at least one more which is mostly Flyer and I had a
time conflict with it, so I skipped it).
The two meets were at the Wyndham Garden and the Sheraton Four Points.
What did I see:
The usual piles of junk.
Lots of Prewar, both Standard and O gauge. Many handsome complete sets....I
just walk by them without looking at the prices. Some clean OO sets and some
boxed Lionel Postwar HO.
Tons of boxed Plasticville. Some of it priced high. Most priced to sell.
Minimal stuff with modern electronics. Lots of MPC and pre-TMCC/RS LTI. The
non-electronic stuff was priced to sell.
Lots of Flyer which I don't really look at.......
Incredible amounts of Postwar in very good to excellent condition. Some prices
high, but most acceptable and nothing like the crazy prices of
1995-2005........and, people are dealing.
More boxed sets than I can remember.....they run the gamut of the late 40s till
the mid 60s. Since I was born in 53, I tend to remember the ones from 56-64
best.....
At least two 2507s (1958 New Haven freight sets......VG to excellent). At least
two New Haven F3 ABs for separate sale. The Denver &Rio Grande sets from 57 &
58. The Virginian rectifier set from 1958; the one with the twin bin dump car
and porthole caboose.
The M&StL diesel work train from 1958. A few Sante Fe F3 passenger sets.
The Boston and Maine Alco AB set which if my memory serve me, is from 1959.
Two Postwar Santa Fe Alco freights. One with the Warbonnet AA and one the I
believe came later with a Warbonnet AB.
Two PostWar Santa Fe Alco passenger sets. One with the Warbonnet livery and one
from 1958 in the Freight livery.
A boxed Navy AB Alco set.
Two Super O General sets( engine 1872) . Both boxed. One Good the other
Excellent.
Lots of complete sets with steamers from the 48-53 era, but I tend to forget
their specifics.
Boxed Bosco milk cars......I saw one or two in the $400 dollar range. Most were
in the low $200s.
......and there is always stuff that is ridiculous like a $1200 #3435 Aquarium
car........but I never thought I would see the day where there was a Jade
Green, boxed 6464 box car for $80......and, people were willing to deal
I was overwhelmed the the amount of PostWar at reasonable prices......and, I
passed on all of them!
