Beware. A couple months back, I jumped on this offer (or one very
similar...the specs all match) and ended up with two dud drives. When
plugged in, they reported being 2TB, but neither would read/write at
USB 3.0 speeds (more like USB 1.0 speeds) and neither would take more
than a couple hundred MB of data written to them before spewing gobs
and gobs of errors to my syslog/console. In other words, they
weren't worth the cost of the envelope in which they shipped. It
took me a long roundabout with PayPal to get my money refunded
(though thankfully I finally got 100% back). Despite the fact that
the "vendor" folded. I suspect it was some fly-by-night crew that
sets up websites, sells rubbish, and then shutters, leaving customers
in the lurch, then opens a new website, and repeats the process.
If you do opt to purchase, make sure you have a strong means to get
your money back if they are rubbish, and make sure you thoroughly
test them to ensure that both the speed and capacity are as
advertised. Because it's a great deal if what you get *isn't* junk,
but it's a waste of time & money if it is the same junk I got.
Also, if they fail and you use PayPal, simply state that "wasn't as
advertised" and don't mention any other details. They'll try to use
any excuse ("your computer reported 2TB, must be fine. And you
tested it. Might have damaged it.") to say you got what you purchased
and try and deny the refund.
Not that I'm sore about the experience or anything. (grins)
