Pranav and All,
In researching the config.TXT documentation, I found an interesting line
that can go into the config.TXT file:
hdmi_ignore_edid_audio
This should ensure that audio does not go through the HDMI.

speech-dispatcher
Hi all,
Problem solved. I had connected a HDMI cable and monitor to the pi. I then
removed the monitor and cable and this seems to have upset things. I
relaunched raspi-config, set the default audio output to Headphone and
things are back to normal.
