That’s of course an excellent point.:). How about creating a new group or using
an existing and add both users then change the group recursively across the
files you want to share. Granted this gets tricky but if it’s just a big data
drive etc might be a possibility.

He could do that, but then he'd have the same problem on the other system
where he is uid 1000.
