I recently completed construction of a Perky Planck Prototype (PPLP).
This is a home-brew version of the Perky Planck, a blind-optimized,
open source personal computer based on the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
and the Planck keyboard.
The PPLP isn't _quite_ a palmtop. It weighs a bit under two pounds,
most of which is spent on a 10000 mAh USB power bank. In assembled
form, it's basically a rectangular solid, about 2.5" x 9.5" x 3.75".
However, the keyboard and processor sub-assemblies can be separated,
providing convenient access to the RasPi's GPIO (etc) sockets.
Although constructing the PPLP would be extremely challenging for an
unassisted blind maker, there are many parts of the process that s/he
could perform with ease. The PPLP was made from readily available
materials, with an estimated parts cost of slightly under $200.
