I like the idea of using the pi as a backup computer. I got ubuntu
mate on mine, and the only thing it seems to struggle with is web
browsing, I think a text based browser might help, i haven't tested
that yet. But it can be used for a lot of basic needs like email, and
composing documents, or listening to music.

something like Ubuntu 16+ on it at the moment, but, for now anyway, I

so, currently, my primary PC is windows 10 64 bit, but anyway.
However, this is also, at least partly, why I want to play around with
the pi's some more, when I get the time/chance, since they are coming
closer to offering almost a full PC, but allowing you to switch around
between operating systems, functionality, etc. quite easily as well -
for example, with this same raspberry pi 3, I have the plain raspbian
image on one SDCard where I managed to get it to run my own menu system,
done using python, on boot-up, to offer simple sound recording
functionality, but, have now also got this SDCard with the dual
operating system image installed, and also have another SDCard with the
raspivoice image installed on it - the version specifically for the pi
3, so can use the same unit for 3 different forms of activities - nice,
except for having to use a butter knife to help me swap out SDCards...LOL!
