About the "thickness" of the RSP trace near Solar events

Hello Radio Astronomers,

I quote Dave Typinski in a message dated Oct 24 2010 in the GSFC list:

"All other things being equal, and assuming the bottom of the chart is at
zero kelvin, the trace of the galactic background (or of any other pure
noise source, calibrators included) will always be "thinner" the lower it is
on the chart."

Near a Solar burst we may not assume other things are constant.

The Solar radiation and the Ionospheric opacity may be fluctuating a great
deal, changing the apparent "thickness" of the trace.

I must disagree with the quoted statement.

Best regards,

Victor Herrero
