First, I’d like to say that the import-csv plugin is very useful, and as long
as data is formatted correctly, it does a great job of importing data. Tip:
import your network segments (subnets or IP spaces), and THEN import your VLANs.
I have three questions, all related to adding hardware to RackTables.
1) We have a lot of hardware, in particular, AlcatelLucent network
switches. I’ve added a bunch of hardware definitions, such as our HP blade
chassis, and I liked the “Layout” markup for that, and it all seems to work
fairly well, but I can’t help but think that for something like a network
switch there might be more information as part of a real entry (e.g., number of
ports, etc.). I’ve glanced at the developer instructions for adding hardware,
but haven’t dug in. Is there a recommendation for adding complex hardware?
2) Relatedly, I noticed that I couldn’t find entries for things like
fiber channel connectors in the Ports/Interfaces. I could add them (I think
they’re technically in SFP+ slots) but I don’t want to just add a bunch of
hardware type entries if there’s a better/more recommended way to add these, or
if I can add them in such a way that my additions can be shared with other
installations.
3) Lastly, and relatedly, I would like to get SNMP working for network
switches, so as to read in the configurations from those devices. So far, I
have seen a lot of “Fatal SNMP error” messages, but I will persevere. However,
if I’m trying to do this with switches whose models are not known to
RackTables, will that prevent me from successfully connecting or interpreting
the MIBs? Is there a way to import/associate MIBs with models?
Thank you for all your help so far!
