But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. Luke 2:19
Mary was a young woman when she was chosen by God to bear His Son, Jesus. She
had a lot to think about in the following days and months-a visitation from an
angel that told her she would conceive a child even though she was a virgin,
what Joseph would think, and then giving birth in a stable with shepherds
showing up in the middle of the night to see her newborn son. Yes Mary was
young. But she possessed a great deal of depth. The bible tells us that she
pondered all of these things in her heart.
Do all women ponder? It seems that we do. We think about the good and the bad
in our lives. We get lost in daydreams. We lie awake at night wondering. We
question our decisions at times and second-guess them occasionally. We
imagine. We wonder. We think.
Take a few moments today to ponder the blessings God has given you. You may be
in the midst of a mountaintop experience in your life, or you may find yourself
in a deep valley of turmoil. Wherever you are, remember this and treasure it
in your heart; God sent His one and only Son to die for you. Ponder that kind
of love.
Father, today when I am tempted to dwell on the troubles in my heart, help me
instead to focus on the treasures. Amen.
