You aren't the only Grandmaster. There's at least four others with presumably
more on the way. You pick your Kai Weapon in Voyage of the Moonstone (or
wherever you start) and that's it. That's your weapon for good or ill.
Unless something specific happens, your Kai Weapon is in whatever state your
adventures and choices have left, so the damage is, in fact, permanent. One
reason you want to play through The Fall of Blood Mountain is to get access to
at least one other +5 CS Weapon-like Special Item to use when your Kai Weapon
is eventually damaged in Vampirium. Supreme Master Lone Wolf has other things
to do than to fix the Kai Weapon that your (kind of stupidly) broke.

Subject: [projectaon] Kai-Weapon Issues?
In light of the upcoming Dead In The Deep this November, there's still a few
New Order mechanics / queries after much thinking needs to be clarified:
A. Kai-Weapon
1. I noticed that some players switch Kai-Weapons for each episode. This
shouldn't be as in cases like Buccaneers and Mydnight's or Vampirium and
Hunger, since they start from the location where the previous one ended. Is it
intended for a player to carry the one they picked from the very beginning all
the way to the end?
2. In Vampirium, the Kai-Weapon gets damaged, with Joe saying that it's
permanent. In the subsequent books, it doesn't say explicitly, it implies that
veteran players will carry that effect through. Then again, some players may
have either purposely skipped Vampirium or missed out. Another thought is that
since Storms of Chai starts 18 years after Hunger, there must be something in
between that the weapon gets inspected and fixed. So which is correct?
B. Storms of Chai
1. Is it confirmed that this errata below has been spotted and corrected? I'm
sure some who has the first print copy of the book may not know about this:
#29: The Storms of Chai
Section 149: should link to 98 instead of 180.
Section 262: should link to 246 instead of 218.
Section 322: should link to 185 instead of 126.
Section 337: should link to 185 instead of 126.
Section 344: should link to 297 instead of 135.
