java script questions

Hi.
have tried looking on google, but no luck so far.
what information i need is how to use a function, to vallidate if a
person has inputed a credit card expiry date function in a combo box
on a form.
and also, how do i code to look up a list of items on a web page, then
display the calculated items on the page, and also calculate the max
items as well.
any information, links, or examples would be fine.
