Hi Jim,

The fourth edition probably covers version 3, so that is a good choice.

If you have any questions I will try and help, but I still use version 2.6 so
my knowledge of version 3 is limited.

  Hi Richard,

Thanks for the advice. They have the fourth edition of Learning Python, so
I'll grab that. I just found out that the Core Python book is about four years
old, so I thought it best to go with the newer book.

  Hi Jim,

I learned Python primarily through the "Learning Python" book by Mark Lutz
(and the on line tutorials). I currently have the third edition from BookShare
and I think it is a good introduction book. Note, however, that BookShare is
currently still having some technical problems with their programming books not
retaining proper code format like indentation. The last time I checked a month
or two ago this still has not been fixed.

The on-line book "Dive into Python" is also good for experienced programmers,
but sometimes assumes a lot. I believe there is also a new version of this
book that addresses version 3.x of Python, which most other books still do not
do.

I am unfamiliar with the "Core Python" book.

    Subject: Which Python Book?

    Hi,

I have four days to use my tokens from Safari, and I have enough to get a
book. I was considering two books, but am open to getting a third. The first is
the newest Learning Python. The second is the latest Python Core Programming.
Which one should I get? If there's a better one for someone trying once again
to learn Python, what would it be?

    Thanks.
