There is also a cross platform Python module for text to speech under Windows, Gnu/Linux and Mac OS X. From the web page: pyttsx is a Python package supporting common text-to-speech engines on Mac OSX, Windows, and Linux. It currently supports SAPI5, NSSpeechSynthesizer, and espeak. You can read more and download the source from

http://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyttsx

You can make python use sapiu with pytts easier than using the say tools well at least I think it’s easier.

Hi Storm,

I'm not absolutely sure of this, but I believe that if you get Jamal's SayTools installation from http://www.nonvisualdevelopment.org that you may be able to use that to do what you need. It incorporates some SAPI tools. I know it uses Python, but I'm not sure how extensively.

Hi,
In Windows XP through the modern version, is it possible to change the computer's default voice and speaking rate? If this is possible, what is the easiest way to get it to speak using Python. I need to have ne version that can be interupted with the next text to be spoken, and one that waits until the current speaking is finished before speaking the next message.
Thanks
Storm
