Hi People,
This happens when you test improperly. I'm going to revise the tutorial so that
it doesn't include the content about putting your books in the site menus. I
forgot that the only ones who can change site menus are administrators. Sorry
about that.

Subject: Nonvisualdevelopment: Initial Book Structure Now Set Up

Hi,
I'm continuing to eat my own dog food. Sorry Fritz. Should I say cat food?

OK. We now have the initial structure up on the site. I have a top page and
just the front page of my Eclipse tutorial up. If you go to the new link called
Tutorials on the Main Navigation area of the site, you will see instructions
for how to start to do your very own tutorial. Hint, hint. These instructions
are below. If you don't understand something in them, I should tweak them to
make them more clear. Here goes. Please, please consider putting some of your
knowledge out there so it doesn't get lost in the hay stack of e-mails out on
FreeLists. We especially crave a little content about C++ IDE's and getting
started with Linux.

I can't wait to see Ken's Cobol book.

OK. Here goes.

Welcome to the Tutorials section of nonvisualdevelopment.org. This area
contains organized sets of content that you can step through to perform various
programming and technical tasks.

Tips About How To Make Tutorial Pages

This page is the upper most book page in the Tutorials section of the site. If
you want to create a new tutorial, which in Drupal terms is a book, simply
click the "Create Child Page" link on this page.

When the new page comes up, it will contain a form.

Fill in the Title field.

Paste the Title field to the clipboard.

Above the Body field, which is a multiple line text field, is a line that reads
"Menu Settings." Click that and move downward.

A single line edit field opens up below the link you just clicked. Paste the
title from the clipboard into this field. This is important, because this field
becomes a choice on the Navigation menu of the site. If you forget to do this
and save the book page, you will create the book page, but it won't show up in
the menus of the site.

Below that is a list item that lets you set the parent for the menu choice.
Please make sure that it is set to Navigation. If it is not, Type a less than
sign, Shift Comma, until the list reads Navigation. This is vary important.

Next, you'll find a Weight field. This is a list of numbers. If you increase
it, it pushes your page down in the menu. If you decrease it, it pushes your
page up in the menu. Any books at the same number on the list get sorted
alphabetically by title.

Fill out the Body field with your content. Pay attention to the instructions
below the link called "Input Format," immediately below the Body field. The
instructions below that link explain which HTML tags you can use and how the
site processes them. If you see no instructions below this link, activate the
link. They will appear.

Tip: I like to use Word or some other program that can spell check my document
so that I have a good chance at creating a professional presentation.

Click the link that says "Book outline."

A pair of lists will appear below that link.

Use one to create a new book. Use the other to choose Tutorials. This way,
anyone who comes to the site will be able to go to the tutorial page and see
all the books they can read. Optionally, you can create a book within another
book if that makes sense.

There is also a Weight list here. You can use it to force the pages in your
book to be ordered at the current level. If you increase the number in the
list, you push the book page down on the list of pages. If you decrease the
number in the list, you push the book page up in the list of pages.

When you create subsequent pages in your book, go to the top page of your book.

Click "Create Child Page" on the front page of your book.

Set the lists at the bottom of the Body field so that the parent page is one of
the pages of your book.

You can create a child page starting with any page in your book. When you do
that, the site will set the parent field for you.

If there's anything you need help with regarding these instructions, use the
Contact Us
link to send a note to the site administrators. You can find The contact link
in the Main
Navigation menu of the site.
