Yes, when I went to a session on Git at Drupalcon it was a little bit scary.  
That being said, for a project with the number of developers and with the size 
of Drupal it will be an incredibly powerful tool.  It is going to take some 
time for me to fully wrap my head around the distributed nature of repositories 
and branching, but this is a learning curve that all involved in the  
development of Drupal will need to overcome.
