I normally don't forward stuff, but thought this might be of interest to some of our students desiring a summer internship. Hurry, though, cuz the deadline's in 2-1/2 days! For those easily offended, u might wanna skip it. The main gist is toward the middle of the forward. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Fyodor <fyodor@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 5 Apr 2011 14:34:48 -0700 Subject: Nmap 5.51 and SoC Opportunity To: nmap-hackers@xxxxxxxxxxxx Hi Folks! I'm happy to report that the Nmap 5.50 release was a big success, with nearly 300,000 downloads in the first two weeks. That much attention inevitably uncovers some bugs, so we released Nmap 5.51 in February to address them. You can find the release notes at (http://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2011/q1/518) and the downloads at http://nmap.org/download.html. I also wanted to let you know about a serious potential competitive threat to Nmap. A leaked email shows that HBGary planned to "BLOW THE BALLS OFF OF NMAP"! Details: http://bit.ly/nmapballs But the most important reason I'm emailing you today is that I need your help finding talented college/grad students for Google's Summer of Code program! They will gain valuable experience writing code used by millions of people and earn $5,000! Previous SoC students helped create the Nmap Scripting Engine, Ncat, and the Zenmap GUI. Several even became top developers! Even though the program is a huge opportunity to be paid for writing free software, getting the word out to the right people is a huge challenge. So if you know any college/grad students (or are one) who are talented enough to blow our balls off, please point them to http://nmap.org/soc! Feel free to post this to any lists or forums that talented students might read. But hurry, because the application deadline is THIS FRIDAY at Noon (U.S. Pacific Time)! This mailing list is great for major Nmap releases and news roundups like this, but I also recommend our Facebook and Twitter pages for more real-time news: http://facebook.com/nmap http://twitter.com/nmap We also have some great Nmap work in progress which I will tell you about soon :).
