other compilers work all the time. there's an old borland compiler called freetools version 5 it's the only compiler I've used in c++ and it's not using dot net so you can run programs it compiles on any windows box.

You know a lot more about this than me and I don't know c++ but what would happen if you tried another compiler?
Would that work. Just a suggestion because I have no idea.
