Yes I like those too, but these are rather weak students. I might just
stick with Thinking in C++ but I just said I'd throw it out there to see if
anyone had other suggestions.

Thanks a lot,

Dónal

I really like effective c++ and more effective c++ but these books are
really aimed at those who know c++ and want to improve so this may not be
what your after.

Thanks.
Nick.

Subject: [program-l] suggestion for a good c++ book.

Folks,

This is an odd question. I haven't needed to use a c++ book in years, but
now find myself in need of one. Basically, I have to teach a second-year
undergraduate course in Object-Oriented design using c++ and I need to
recommend a good book for my students. I'm therefore looking for a text
which I can get in some kind of accessible format, (so I can read it myself)
and also which students will find useful. The current recommended book is
the Deitel one which I personally don't like.

So any thoughts are welcome on this one.

Thanks much,

Dónal
